Great Stirling Castle Run

This was the second year of the Castle Run which succeeds the Great Winter Run and it is a much lower key event with runners going off in waves all day.

There is a similar elevation gain to the Great Winter Run but the course is slower due to narrow and winding route and more of a trail feel too, often tarmac. Glad we weren’t using the soggy mud bath followed by the Cross Challenge runners so one for trail or road shoes.

What a day! Squally showers on a hard wind. Once round the King’s Park golf course then a more sheltered traverse of the Castle (high risk of slipping/crashing on the narrow Gowan Hill section with two way running traffic). Organisers knocked off 100m for H&S reasons so it was a 7.3k.

We jogged around at a conversational pace. Good to be out at all in these conditions after an enforced layoff. Didn’t stay to watch the XC.

Might give this one another chance next year.
