Falkirk Ultra

By February 3, 2018News, Non Members News, Races

Whilst most of our Devils Burdens runners were using the Sunday afternoon as an opportunity for some well deserved rest and recuperation, or possibly an easy recovery run, there was no such luxuries for club member Egle Laurinaityte. After spending Saturday running up and down West Lomond and Bishop Hill on leg 2 of the Devils relay event, Egle had merely been using that as a warm-up for her main event of the weekend, the inaugural running of the ‘Falkirk 8hr Ultra Trail Race‘, organised by ‘R & R Events’.

Utilising a 4 mile lap of Callendar Park, scene of the National XC Champs in February, the wet weather led to tough underfoot conditions, with mud and large puddles to contend with in addition to the constantly undulating terrain. Despite her previous days exertions, Egle quickly settled into her position as second placed female, and started the long task of racking up the miles over the 8 hour event.

Despite holding second position for most of the event, Egle gave it one final push in the final hour to overhaul the leading female, and crossed the finish line as first female, and 5th overall, taking the victory with a total of 49.08 miles. An awesome result to finish off an extremely strong weekend of racing for Egle.

There was also further representation for the club with Fiona Rennie having a strong race to cover 39.80 miles, David Cox covering 34.2 miles (despite having to unfortunately withdraw after 5:30hr), and Mags Doyle covering 25.21 miles.

Congratulations to all runners for some great performances on what looked like an extremely tough event.
