Steve Cairns wins the Graham Clark Memorial Race
Congratulations to Hunters Bog Trotter Steve Cairns who sped his way around Knockhill Racing Circuit to win the Graham Clark 3.9 Mile Memorial Race. Northern Ireland internationalist Cairns covered the undulating three lap race in 19.23 to secure victory while Carnegie's Andrew Wright placed 2nd in 19.39. Kenny O'Neill (Inverclyde AC) finished 3rd in 19.47 with Fife AC's Chris Russell taking 4th in 20.31. Allan Fotheringham (Carnegie Harriers) finished 5th in 20.36.

Corstorphine AAC's Gillian Carr won the ladies race in 24.00 with Carly Hall (Aberdeen AAC) finishing 2nd lady in 24.21. Perth Road Runner Claire Douglas placed 3rd lady in 24.53 while the host club's Gail Murdoch was 4th and 1st F40 in 25.01. Jacqueline McIntyre (Carnegie Harriers) took 5th position in 25.07.

Carnegie's Calum McGaw placed an excellent 10th overall and leading junior runner in 21.15.Ian Johnston ran a strong race finishing 1st M50 in 22.59, Archibald Duncan (Pitreavie AAC) was the 1st M60 in 24.30 and Steven Cromar (Dundee Hawkhill Harriers) the leading M70 in 28.05.

Isobel Burnett (Carnegie Harriers) finished 7th lady and 1st F50 in 25.34 and Kerry Gibson (Fife AC) was the 1st Female Junior in 28.18.

The mens team award was won by Carnegie Harriers (Andrew Wright, Allan Fotheringham and Graeme Campbell) with 13 points. Fife AC were 2nd on 36 points, Pitreavie AAC were 3rd on 69 points and Kinross Road Runners 4th on 73 points.

The ladies team award was won by Carnegie Harriers (Gail Murdoch, Jacqueline MacIntyre and Fabienne Thompson) with 204 points. Corstorphine AAC were 2nd ladies team with 250 points and Kinross Road Runners were 3rd on 274 points.

There were 217 finishers and very well done to everyone who took part. There was an excellent turnout from all the local clubs and we hope you all enjoyed the event.

Carnegie excell at the Ochil 2000's Hill Race
Nine members of Carnegie Harriers took part in Saturday's Ochil 2000's Hill Race. Peter Simpson continued his fine form on the hills by placing 5th overall and 1st M50 in 3.00.29. Alison West was the leading F50 reaching the finish at Stirling University in 4.34.01.

Congratulations to our ladies (Fabienne Thompson, Alison West and Melanie Sinclair) who won the team prize. Carnegie's men finished an superb 3rd team overall.

After 12 events in our Hill Running Grand Prix, Peter Simpson leads the men with 450 points with Steven King, 2nd with 435 points. Neil Campbell is 3rd on 415 points. Allan Macaulay is the leading M50 with 399 points and Andy Sim leads the M40 category with 185 points.

Alison West leads the ladies on 447 points, Fabienne Thompson is 2nd with 249 points and Melanie Sinclair is 3rd on 193 points. The 13th counting event is the Merrick Hill Race on 19th September.

Cloybank Trail Race is a Resounding Success
Carnegie Harriers in conjunction with Cloybank Estate staged the very first Cloybank 6K Trail Race on Saturday afternoon. Despite a lower than anticipated turnout of only 23 runners those who took part thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of the 6k course.

Carnegie's Andrew Wright was the convincing winner of the event covering the two lap course in 20.17. Iain Taylor ran a strong race placing 2nd and 1st M40 in 21.31 with Pitreavie AAC's Barry Davie taking 3rd in 21.43. Garry Roberston (Edinburgh AC) found the hilly nature of the course to his liking and finished 4th and 2nd M40 in 21.59. Kirkintilloch Olympian David Hogg took 5th place timing at 21.59 while Carnegie's Ian Johnston was 6th and leading M50 in 23.02.

Jacqueline MacIntyre (Carnegie Harriers) was in top form winning the ladies race in 25.42 with club mate Isobel Burnett placing 2nd lady and 1st F50 in 26.03. Kirsty Baird finished 3rd lady in 27.09 and Morna Fleming was 4th and 2nd F50 in 28.41. Christine Eadie (Falkirk Victoria Harriers) was the leading F40 clocking a time of 30.48.

There were very positive comments regarding the race from the 23 finishers and hopefully the numbers will swell for the 2011 event. Many thanks to everyone who assisted and to Barrs for providing the bottled water and to Sweatshop for the spot prizes.

All proceeds from the race are being donated to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow and many thanks to everyone who have assisted.

Superb pre-entry for Graham Clark Memorial Race
There has been a fantastic response to the request to pre-enter the Graham Clark 3.9 Mile Memorial Race which takes place at 7.30pm on Tuesday 31st August at Knockhill Racing Circuit. The race has now received over 160 race entries including an excellent 31 entries from Kinross Road Runners.

Please note that race numbers are to be collected on the night.

The event involves the runners completing three full circuits of the 1.3 mile racing track giving a total race distance of 3.9 miles. This event is growing in popularity each year and in 2009 attraced 218 runners. Everyone is invited to our free post race buffet after the race.

Harriers head for the Hills and the Trails
Carnegie Harriers in association with Cloybank Estate host the Cloybank 6K Trail Race at 2pm on Saturday afternoon in Banknock, Stirlingshire. The event has attracted a field of 29 runners who will tackle the challenging two lap course. All the proceeds from the event are being donated to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow.

Also on Saturday, the 12th counting event in our Road Running Grand Prix takes place at the Ochil 2000's Hill Race with several Carnegie members taking part.

Harriers place well at the Ravenscraig Park Two Miler
The final event in the 2010 Ravenscraig Park Series took place on Tuesday evening featuring a two mile race. Carnegie's Calum McGaw and Claire Howie were both in excellent form winning the mens and ladies races respectively.

McGaw forced the pace from the start and passed through halfway in 5.13 en-route to reaching the finish in 10.51. Iain Taylor timed at 11.18 placing 3rd overall and 2nd M40 while Fergus McGaw was awarded the first junior prize finishing 5th overall in a PB of 11.41.

Claire Howie ran a strong race finishing 1st lady in 13.07 and Kieran Morgan was also amongst the prizes finishing 2nd M50 also in 13.07.

Robert Milton posted a time of 12.01 finishing 7th, Alan Cockburn was 8th in 12.04 and Jim Robb was 11th in 12.39.

Plummer finishes 4th at Dublin 10 Mile Road Race
Carnegie's Simon Plummer represented Scotland on Saturday at the Dublin 10 Mile Road Race which was held in Pheonix Park. Simon who recently won the Forth Bridge 10K placed 4th overall in a field of 6,500 runners reaching the finish in an impressive 52.40.

On Friday evening, Calum McGaw ran a fast 5K in the Beveridge Park, Kirkcaldy where he clocked 17.09 placing 4th and 1st junior. Fergus McGaw also ran well finishing 10th and 2nd junior in 18.44. Morna Fleming was the leading F50 timing at 22.51.

On Saturday morning, Carnegie Harriers were represented by twelve members at the weekly Edinburgh parkrun 5k. New member Colin Somerville made his club and parkrun debut finishing 8th overall in 17.34. Iain Taylor clocked 17.47 (10th and 2nd M40), Campbell Hutt was 11th in 18.04 and Andrew Smith was 13th in 18.11. Conditions were tough at Silverknowes for the 212 runners taking part with a strong wind slowing times significantly.

Hill Running Grand Prix - Ochil 2000's
The next event in the Carnegie Harriers Hill Running Grand Prix is the Ochil 2000's Hill Race on Saturday 28th August. The closing date for entry has now been extended to 23rd August for postal entries.

New event for 2010 - The Cloybank 6K Trail Race
The Cloybank 6K Trail Race which is organised by Cloybank Estate with the assistance of Carnegie Harriers will take place at 2pm on Saturday 28th August. This new race for 2010 will start and finish in Cloybank Estate, Banknock, Stirlingshire and follows a two lap course within the grounds of the estate. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow.

City of Stirling 10K Road Race - Sunday 19th September
Over 400 entries have already been received for the City of Stirling 10K Road Race which takes place on Sunday 19th September. This race is very likely to sell out and at the moment there are twenty entries from Carnegie Harriers. Online race entry is available by clicking HERE.

John Hargreaves wins the Ceres 8 Mile Road Race
After an absence of one year the popular Ceres 8 returned to the road racing calendar on Tuesday evening attracting a field of 150 runners. Carnegie Harriers were represented by twenty seven club members with the event featuring the 12th counter in our Road Running Grand Prix.

Carnegie's John Hargreaves ran a strong race forging ahead of Roger Van Gompel (Dundee Hawkhill Harriers) over the final mile to secure victory in 45.46. Club mate Roger Clark found the hilly course to his liking reaching the finish at Ceres village green in 3rd place timing at 46.43. Fast improving Andrew Smith ran well finishing 7th overall (1st U20) in 48.38 while Campbell Hutt was 11th (49.39) and William Hargreaves finished 12th in 49.42.

Isobel Burnett clocked an impressive 57.42 to place 5th lady overall and 1st F50. Annette Bunyan produced a strong run timing at 1.00.15 finishing 6th lady. Morna Fleming was the 3rd Carnegie lady to finish the hilly eight miler clocking a time of 1.03.02 while Yvette Wilson timed at 1.04.02.

John Fulham knocked over six minutes from his previous best eight mile time finishing 27th overall in 53.27. Allan Brannigan continued his good form placing 50th in 57.25 while Gordon Rae ran well finishing 66th in 59.28.

After twelve events in our Road Running Grand Prix, Morna Fleming leads the ladies with 421 points. Susan Cederstrom is 2nd lady on 406 points with Gail Murdoch, 3rd on 398 points. Isobel Burnett is in 4th position and leading F50 with 386 points and Annette Bunyan is 5th on 285 points.

Ian Johnston leads the men with 414 points with John Fulham in 2nd place on 385 points. Iain Taylor has 376 points in 3rd position while Allan Brannigan is 4th and leading M40 on 341 points. Kieran Morgan has 334 points in 5th place.

The Road Running Grand Prix consists of 15 events where the leading Carnegie member in each event receives 50 points, 49 points for 2nd, 48 points for 3rd and so on. It is the members best 9 events that count towards their overall points total.

The 13th counting event is on Tuesday 31st August at the Graham Clark Memorial Race at Knockhill Racing Circuit.

15 Harriers complete the Lomonds of Fife Hill Race
Pete Simpson was in superb form on Sunday afternoon at the Lomonds of Fife Hill Race. Pete placed 4th overall and 1st M50 covering the challenging course in 1.40.45. Steven King was 24th in 1.57.04 and Derek Cassells was 29th in 2.02.14. Fabienne Thompson was Carnegie's leading lady clocking a time of 2.25.19 and Alison West finished in 2.27.58.

After 11 events in our Hill Running Grand Prix, Pete Simpson leads the men on 449 points, Neil Campbell is 2nd on 411 points and Steven King is 3rd with 387 points. Alison West is the leading lady on 447 points, Fabienne Thompson is currently in 2nd place on 199 points and Melanie Sinclair is 3rd with 145 points.

The next counting event in the Hill Running Grand Prix is on Saturday 28th August at the Ochils 2000 Race.

Simon Plummer in top form at the Forth Bridge 10K
Carnegie Harriers were represented by an amazing 55 club members at Sunday's Forth Bridge Pitreavie 10K which as always was superbly organised by Pitreavie AAC. Conditions were warm for the field of 322 runners but with virtually no wind it made for fast times over the scenic 6.2 mile course.

Carnegie's Simon Plummer posted a very fast time of 31.16 to secure his 2nd Forth Bridge 10K title having won the race back in 2007. Simon who led from the start at North Queensferry Community Centre passed through 5K in 15.05 and will represent Scotland next Saturday in a ten mile race in Dublin.

Andy Symonds who is in the midst of intensive training for the Trans-Alpine Race made a rare appearance on the roads. Andy was rewarded with a superb run placing 3rd overall in 32.31. Tommy Lawrence enjoyed a strong 10K clocking 33.51 finishing 9th overall and 2nd M40. Carnegie won the men's team award on 13 points with Corstorphine AAC placing 2nd team on 15 points.

Isobel Burnett was the leading Carnegie lady finishing 6th female overall and 1st F50. Isobel clocked a time of 43.46. Kirsty Baird reached the finish at the Queensferry Hotel in 44.51 (9th lady) and Kate McKinnon made a welcome return to road racing placing 11th lady in 45.35. Carnegie won the ladies team award with 26 points.

Many Carnegie runners produced excellent runs including Andrew Smith who finished 16th overall in a PB of 36.38 and Chris Stephenson who was 36th in 40.13. Tom Spry won the M60 award finishing 63rd overall in 42.57 while Darran Neilson posted a time of 43.31 placing 70th.

Mark Western covered his 6.2 miles in 44.56 (90th) and Mary Western was 114th in 46.26. Grace MacKenzie recorded a time of 46.57 (121st) while Melanie Sinclair set a PB of 48.08 and Ronnie Hunter-Blair was 141st in 48.23.

Ken Daniels was one of the leading M70 runners clocking a time of 50.37, Clive Cable finished in 51.33 and Vivienne Ogg ran her fastest 10K for several years timing at 53.43.

Very well done to everyone who took part and to race director Barry Davie and his team for organising such a tremendous event.

Andrew Wright wins the Largo Law Hill Race
Congratulations to Carnegie's Andrew Wright who was in terrific form on Saturday afternoon winning the Largo Law Hill Race. Andrew covered the 6.5 mile 1000ft course in 45.30 which is only 37 seconds outside Andy Symonds course record of 44.53 which was set in 2008.

Carnegie Harriers were represented by four members at the gruelling Devil O'The Highlands 43 Mile Race from Tyndrum to Fort William. The runners braved warm conditions throughout their run which was successfully completed by Gail Murdoch (33rd and 7th lady in 7.56.35), Andy Sim (43rd in 8.13.37), Helena Sim (55th in 8.36.45) and Sue Walker (90th in 10.23.21).

Five Harriers took part in the Edinburgh parkrun 5K on Saturday morning with David Greig placing 38th in 20.07. Jim Robb clocked 20.20 (45th) and Colin Reid was 75th in 22.35. Adam Sinclair made his club and parkrun debut timing at 28.01 (138th) while Michelle Jackson was 157th in 30.01.

Mile success for Calum McGaw and Eilidh Reid
Carnegie's Calum McGaw clocked an impressive 5.07 to win the one mile race and final event in the 2010 Friday Evening Race Series. Colin Somerville (Unattached) covered the challenging course in Pittencrieff Park, Dunfermline in 5.17 taking 2nd place with Pitreavie AAC's Scott McAlpine placing 3rd overall in 5.21.

Eilidh Reid (Pitreavie AAC) won the ladies race in an excellent 6.16 with Carnegie's Claire Howie finishing 2nd lady in 6.37 and Amy McAlpine (Pitreavie AAC) was 3rd lady in 6.46.

Barry Davie (Pitreavie AAC) placed 4th in 5.22 and David Adam (Unattached) finished 5th and 1st M40 in 5.24. Thirteen year old Aidan Thompson (Pitreavie AAC) produced a very strong run placing 6th overall in 5.26 while Carnegie's Ian Johnston finished 7th and 1st M50 in 5.54. Club mate Tom Spry was the leading M60 in a time of 6.46.

International selection for Pauline and Fiona
Congratulations to Carnegie's Pauline Walker and Fiona Rennie who have both been selected to represent Scotland in the forthcoming 24 hour race at the Perth Ultra Festival.

Carnegie well represented at the Dollar Hill Race
The club had a great turnout at the Dollar Hill Race on Saturday. This years race doubled as a SHR Championship event and also a British Championship counter. The huge field of 252 finishers included 11 Carnegie Harriers who took part in the 9.4 mile 3150 ft ascent course.

Leading Harrier was Peter Simpson who finished 42nd overall and was 4th in the MSV category in 1.26.26. A magnificent achievement considering the quality of the runners competing. Peter was 2nd Scot MSV. Dougie McGarry made a welcome return to hill racing and had a very impressive run finishing 160th in 1.45.16. It was a close race for the next four Harriers with Fabienne Thompson leading the pack to finish 173rd in 1.48.18, followed by Colin Reynolds 176th in 1.49.20, Neil Campbell 177th in a course PB of 1.49.24 and Andy Sim 179th in 1.49.39. Tom Bowie making good recovery from injury was 194th in 1.53.39, Stevie Greer 199th in 1.54.23, Alison West 203rd in 1.56.02, Phil Smithard 208th in 1.57.32 and Hill Captain Allan Macaulay bringing up the rear in 212th position in 1.58.20.

Five Harriers travelled to the Pentland Hills last Wednesday for the Turnhouse Hill Race. It was a perfect mild evening for runners competing in the 3 mile 1100 ft climb. First Harrier was Sandy Bennet in 11th position and 3rd V40 in 28.55. Colin Reynolds made a welcome return to competitive running and finished 53rd in 34.51. Alison West continued her fine form to finish 62rd overall and 1st F50 in 36.17. Allan Macaulay was 70th in 37.44 and Lynne Bennet 72nd in 38.14.

Two young Harriers made took part in the Junior Turnhouse Race with Struan Bennet 10th in 16.23 and Ailsa Bennet 11th in 16.24.

Details of the UKA Hill Running Relay Championships are now available on Fife AC website. We now have 16 males and 6 females for the race so far. We need 1 Male V40, 1 Male V50 and also a reserve list to cover for call offs. There is a limit of 2 female teams of 6 and 3 male teams of 6 so please advise Allan Macaulay as soon as possible if you wish to take part.

Harriers place well at the Donkey Brae Race
The annual seven mile Donkey Brae Race from Aberdour's Silver Sands saw a good turnout of Carnegie members at the popular event. Tommy Lawrence clocked 39.11, placing an excellent 2nd overall (1st M40) finishing only a few seconds behind the race winner Ray Ward (Hunters Bog Trotters).

Roger Clark finished strongly in 3rd position in 40.44 with Mike Harvey occupying 5th (41.56) while Ian Stewart was 6th (42.25) and 1st M50. Kevin Mathie completed the undulating course finishing 7th in 44.00.

Carnegie's Jo Wilson produced a top quality run finishing 2nd lady in 48.34 while Claire Howie was an impressive 4th in the ladies race in 50.45.

Ronnie Hunter-Blair made his Carnegie debut finishing 138th in 58.33, George Stenhouse was 192nd in 1.07.35 and James Rowsome clocked 1.32.24 finishing 236th.

Well done Fife AC for staging another superb Tour
The 10th edition of the Tour of Fife was a resounding success and well done to Fife AC's Brian Cruickshank and his team for staging this epic event of races.

This year's tour which was sponsored again by John R.Weir saw 133 runners complete the six stages over seven days. The event which began last Sunday afternoon at Giffordtown saw the 'tourists' run 27 miles over varying terrain finishing with the 5.6 mile 'Twisted' Chicken Run from Strathmiglo. The competition is intense, the cameraderie is outstanding and everyone is a winner.

Iain Taylor enjoyed a good set of races and was Carnegie's leading finisher this year placing 11th overall in 2.55.26. Iain was awarded the 1st M40 prize and a photo of him racing towards the finish at the Chariots of Fire Beach Race can be found HERE.

Steven King was in great form all week and found the hilly nature of many of the stages to his liking. Steven finished 12th overall in 2.57.02 and a photo of him ascending West Lomond on Stage 3 can be found HERE.

Ian Johnston finished 2nd M50 (27th overall) in 3.08.36. A photo from Ian on Stage 6 complete with his 'go faster' face paint can be found HERE.

Alan Cockburn produced a great six days of racing resulting in a 'top thirty' finish. Alan clocked an overall time of 3.10.35 placing 29th overall and a photo from Stage 1 can be found HERE.

Ever improving John Fulham finished 31st overall in 3.11.30. A photo of John powering along on Stage 6 at the Chicken Run can be found HERE.

Derek Cassells found the hill section to his liking throughout the week with strongs runs at West Lomond and the Up Hell time trial. Derek finished 33rd overall in 3.13.59 and is pictured on the opening road race stage HERE.

Regular Tour of Fife competitor Robert Milton completed the 2010 event in 3.18.15 placing 38th. A photo of Robert working hard along an uphill section on Stage 6 can be found HERE.

Allan Brannigan completed his first Tour in style placing 46th overall in 3.22.09. Alan is pictured HERE on Stage 4 at St Andrews.

Gail Murdoch was Carnegie's leading lady, placing 49th overall and 1st F40 in 3.23.36. A photo of Gail on the Up Hell Time Trial on Stage 5 can be found HERE.

Chris Davidson enjoyed his first Tour of Fife and produced some strong rusn throughout the week. Chris placed 53rd overall in 3.25.54 and can be seen HERE working hard uphill on Stage 4.

Bill Duff had an outstanding week winning the M60 category and finishing 55th overall. Bill is pictured HERE running down West Lomond on Stage 3.

Tim Walker ran well throughout the Tour to place 61st overall in 3.31.16. Tim can be seen HERE descending West Lomond.

Kieran Morgan in his first Tour of Fife placed 68th overall in 3.33.36 and can be seen HERE on Stage 3 climbing West Lomond.

Helena Sim finished one of the leading F45 runners (72nd overall) in 3.38.59. A photo of Helena on Stage 2 at the 6.5 mile trail race at Lochore Meadows can be found HERE.

Pauline Walker completed her 7th Tour of Fife in 3.41.29 placing 78th overall. Pauline added a bit colour to her racing attire on the final stage from Strathmiglo and a super photo can be found HERE.

Campbell Reid clocked 3.43.02 placing 82nd overall and can be seen HERE on Stage 6.

Melanie Sinclair took part in her first Tour of Fife and put in a very strong effort finishing 87th overall in 3.46.33. A photo of Melanie descending West Lomond on Stage 3 can be found HERE.

Morna Fleming placed 91st overall and 2nd F55 in 3.49.46. Morna can be seen HERE giving it her all on the Up Hell time trial on Stage 5.

Regular Tour of Fife competitor Fiona Rennie placed 110th in 4.08.33. Fiona can be seen HERE racing around Lochore Meadows on Stage 2.
