Tour of Fife reaches the midway point
The 2010 John R.Weir Tour of Fife reached halfway on Tuesday evening after the hill race up West Lomond. Twenty three Harriers are amongst the 141 runners who have completed all three stages so far with three races still to take place.

Tour gets underway on a warm day in Giffordtown
The opening event in the 2010 John R. Weir Tour of Fife took place on Sunday afternoon with 23 Carnegie runners amongst the 158 taking part. Stage 1 featured a five mile road race from Giffordtown which was contested in very warm conditions.

Iain Taylor was the leading Carnegie runner finishing 8th overall and 2nd M40 in 28.56. Steven King ran a personal best reaching the finish in 29.56 placing 13th. Ian Johnston posted a time of 31.16 (23rd) finishing 2nd M50 followed by John Fulham who ran 31.59 (29th) and Alan Cockburn who was 31st in 32.09.

Gail Murdoch showed she is recovering well from last Saturday's Clyde Stride 40 miler as she finished 4th lady and 1st F40 in 32.54. Bill Duff enjoyed an excellent opening stage clocking 34.33 (57th) finishing the leading M60. Chris Davidson had a strong run finishing 70th in 35.20 and Helena Sim was 2nd F45 in 36.05. Morna Fleming placed 2nd F55 in 37.59.

Cortorphine AAC's Chris O'Brien will wear the yellow jersey tomorrow after winning today in a fast 26.40.The host club's Alison McGill was the first lady in 31.12.

Stage 2 of the six races takes place at 7.30pm on Monday evening over a 6.5 mile multi-terrain course at Lochore Meadows.

Pre-entry requested for the Graham Clark Memorial Race
Carnegie Harriers host the Graham Clark 3.9 Mile Memorial Race at Knockhill Racing Circuit by Dunfermline at 7.30pm on Tuesday 31st August. This event involves the runners completing three laps of the 1.3 mile racing circuit.

The race has a limit of 250 runners and over 75 entries have already been received. The entry fee is £5 for SAL members and £7 for non members. Entries will only be accepted on the night of the race if the limit is not reached and we request runners to pre-enter if possible.

Please note that the racing circuit will be in use for motorsports until 7.30pm and runners must not access the track until directed to do so for the start of the race. There will be plenty other areas available at Knockhill for a pre-race warm up.

All runners are invited to attend the post-race buffet in the Cafeteria at Knockhill. The awards will also be presented at this location.

Three Harriers complete the Clyde Stride Ultra Race
Gail Murdoch produced another excellent performance at the weekend finishing 2nd lady at the Clyde Stride 40 Mile Ultra Race. Gail clocked a time of 5.53.02 for this new event which runs from Glasgow (Partick) along the Clyde through Strathclyde Park, New Lanark, the Falls of Clyde Nature Reserve finishing at Bonnington Linn.

Richie Cunningham finished 7th overall in 5.45.40 and very well done to Lesley Halstead who completed her first ultra race in 7.58.41.

Carnegie's Iain Taylor enjoyed a successful debut run on Saturday morning at the Strathclyde parkrun winning the 5k in 17.36.

New event for 2010 - The Cloybank 6K Trail Race
The Cloybank 6K Trail Race which is organised by Cloybank Estate with the assistance of Carnegie Harriers will take place at 2pm on Saturday 28th August. This new race for 2010 will start and finish in Cloybank Estate, Banknock, Stirlingshire and follows a two lap course within the grounds of the estate. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow.

Mary Western places 2nd lady at Beveridge Park 5K
Carnegie Harriers were represented by five members at Friday evenings Beveridge Park 5K in Kirkcaldy. The race attracted 35 runners who all completed the undulating and windswept course within the park.

Iain Taylor had a solid run finishing 5th overall (2nd M40) in 17.39 while Mark Western placed 18th in 21.21 and Tim Walker was 19th in 21.28.

Our Carnegie ladies ran well with Mary Western running a very strong race to finish 2nd lady overall and 1st F40 in 21.52. Pauline Walker dipped under the 22 minute barrier finishing 3rd lady in 21.59.

On Wednesday evening, Alan Cockburn contested the Cockermouth 5K Road Race in the Lake District where he finished 12th in 19.35.

Newburgh success for John Hargreaves
Carnegie's John Hargreaves was in excellent form on Wednesday evening winning the Newburgh 4.25 Mile Race in 24.12. Willie Hargreaves also enjoyed a strong run covering the multi-terrain course in 26.36 finishing 10th overall.

Eleven Harriers tackled the Maddy Moss Hill Race from Tillicoultry. The race which was run in appalling weather conditions saw Sandy Bennet place 20th overall in 1.01.20 and Peter Simpson was the 3rd M50 (23rd overall) in 1.02.18. Bill Duff won the M60 award in 1.13.02 (54th overall) and Alison West was the 1st F50 in 1.15.51. Chris Davidson ran well covering the six mile course with 2500ft of climbing in 1.11.34 and Neil Campbell ran his fastest ever Maddy Moss race timing at 1.15.00. Kevin Mathie places 3rd at Ravenscraig One Miler
Twenty two Carnegie members were amongst a field of 43 runners at the Ravenscraig Park One Mile Race in Kirkcaldy on Tuesday evening. The fast and relatively flat one miler incorporated the 10th event in our 2010 Road Running Grand Prix.

Many Harriers produced excellent performances with Kevin Mathie placing 3rd overall in 5.13. Steven King enjoyed a fast run clocking 5.20 in 5th position with Ian Johnston finishing 6th and 1st M50 in 5.25.

Fast improving Ross Carrie reaching the finishing line in a personal best of 5.26 (7th) and Mark McVay set a PB of 5.28 in 8th (2nd M40) place. Colin Reid finished 10th overall in 5.33.

Gail Murdoch continued her successful season winning the ladies race in a personal best of 5.53. Morna Fleming also set a PB whilst finishing 3rd lady and 1st F50 in 6.54 while Susan Cederstrom won the F40 award timing at 7.26 and Leasley Halstead was the 2nd F40 in 7.27.

There were many other fine run including John Fulham who ran a PB of 5.44 (11th) and Allan Brannigan who recorded a PB of 5.51 placing 14th. Bill Duff was the 2nd M60 in 6.12 and Ken Daniels the leading M70 in 6.53.

The race was won by the host club's Paul Roarty in 4.59.

After ten events in our Road Running Grand Prix, 99 club members have now taken part. Ian Johnston leads the men with 410 points, John Fulham is 2nd on 378 points and Kieran Morgan is 3rd on 321 points. Morna Fleming leads the ladies on 414 points with Gail Murdoch in 2nd place on 398 points and Susan Cederstrom is 3rd on 361 points.

Bill Duff wins M60 award in Braemar
Three Harriers travelled north to Braemar on Sunday to take part in the Heart of the Park Challenge. The multi-terrain race saw the 53 runners taking part cover a 12k course along trails and tracks, through bogs and pinewoods of Braemar.

Bill Duff ran a great race and was the leading Carnegie runner finishing 24th overall and 1st M60 in 1.07.53. Chris Davidson placed 34th in 1.14.10 and Melanie Sinclair was 38th overall and 6th lady in 1.14.25.

Edinburgh parkrun success for Gail Murdoch
Congratulations to Carnegie's Gail Murdoch who clocked an impressive time of 19.55 finishing 1st lady at Saturday's Edinburgh parkrun 5K. Ten Harriers were amongst the 151 runners who took part and Calum McGaw ran a strong race placing 3rd overall and leading male junior in 17.23.

Fergus McGaw finished 22nd in 19.18 and fast improving junior member Scott Dowell ran a PB of 19.59 placing 34th. Colin Reid was 37th in 20.18, Tim Walker, 49th in 20.56 and Tommy Lawlor was 56th in 21.22.

Melanie Sinclair celebrated her birthday in style by recording a 5K personal best of 21.55 placing 7th lady and 63rd overall. Lesley Halstead was 97th in 25.10 and John Milton was 99th in 25.26.

Neil Campbell was Carnegie's sole representative at the Glamaig Hill Race on the Isle of Skye. This 4.5 mile course, covering a total of 2400 feet climbing, is reputed to be one of the toughest descents in the Scottish Hill racing calendar. Neil was 62nd out of 107 finishers in 1.20.50.

On Saturday afternoon, Judy Turner was the first lady at the Alva Highland Games Hill Race in 28.06 with Andrew Wright finishing 7th overall in 22.56.

On Sunday morning Iain Taylor took part in the 5000m race at the Scottish Masters Track and Field Championships at Pitreavie Stadium in Dunfermline. Iain won the bronze medal in the M40-M44 age category in 18.11.

At the multi-terrain Crieff 10K Race on Sunday morning over 200 runners took part. Carnegie's Andrew Wright ran an excellent race finishing 2nd overall in 35.52. Mike Harvey was 24th in 41.58 and Frazer Munro finished 33rd in 43.31.

Lynne Bennet takes the F40 title at Carnethy
At last Wednesday's Carnethy Midweek Hill Race in the Pentlands, Sandy Bennet covered the 3 miles and 1100 feet climb in 30.55 to finish 9th overall and 3rd M40. Lynne Bennet was 36th overall and 1st F40 in 39.43.

Harriers enjoy team success at the Brig Bash 5
Carnegie Harriers were represented by an excellent turnout of thirty club members at Wednesday's Brig Bash 5 which started and finished in Bridge of Earn. The popular, fast and flat race attracted a field of almost 200 runners with the host club's Mike Carroll racing to victory in 26.17.

Iain Taylor was Carnegie's leading runner placing 7th overall and 2nd M40 in 28.45. Willie Hargreaves clocked 29.41 finishing 13th and Kevin Mathie was 15th in 30.10 resulting in Carnegie winning the men's team prize.

Gail Murdoch finished 3rd lady overall in a personal best of 32.13. Fabienne Thompson ran well placing 5th lady in 33.04. Claire Howie enjoyed a strong five miler reaching the finish in 33.22 (7th lady) to ensure team success for Carnegie ladies.

Despite the windy conditions many fast times and personal bests were recorded. John Fulham set a PB of 31.54 (29th) while new club member Mark McVay produced an excellent run to finish 33rd in 32.07. Allan Brannigan placed 50th in a PB of 33.31, Chris Davidson was 76th in 35.12 (PB) and Melanie Sinclair reduced her 5 mile best to 36.21 placing 16th lady. Linda James set a PB of 36.23 and Craig Lindsay recorded a new best of 36.37.

After nine events in our Road Running Grand Prix, John Fulham leads the men with 369 points with Ian Johnston currently 2nd on 362 points and Iain Taylor is 3rd with 291 points.

Morna Fleming is the leading lady with 406 points, Gail Murdoch is 2nd on 348 points and Susan Cederstrom is 3rd on 313 points.

Ninety seven club members have taken part in our 2010 Road Running Grand Prix so far this year. The 10th event takes place at 7pm on Tuesday 13th July at the Ravenscraig Park One Mile Race in Kirkcaldy. All entries (£2) are on the night at the Bowling Green and a good turnout of club members is requested.

Road Running Grand Prix heads to Perthshire
Perth Road Runners host the fast, flat and highly popular Brig Bash 5 at 7.30pm this evening in Bridge of Earn. Entries will be accepted from 6.30pm at the village hall.

As always, we have included the Brig Bash in our Road Running Grand Prix and hopefully there will be a good turnout of Carnegie members at tonight's race.

Andrew Wright places 2nd at Luss Games Hill Race
Andrew Wright placed an impressive 2nd overall at the Luss Highland Games Hill Race on Saturday afternoon covering the 1.8 mile (1000ft) course in 23.09. On Friday evening three Harriers took part in the White Tops Hill Race at Auchterhouse, Dundee. The race was over 6 miles featuring a 900 ft climb. It was an excellent race, combining trail running and a relatively short climb with a superb buffet afterwards. Chris Davidson was 40th in 47.31, Neil Campbell was 44th in 49.07 and Melanie Sinclair was 47th in 49.34.

Ten harriers were amongst a field of 202 runners who took part in the Edinburgh parkrun 5k on Saturday morning in windy conditions along Silverknowes Promenade. Iain Taylor clocked 17.21 placing 6th overall with John Fulham finishing 32nd in 19.25. Ross Carrie was 38th in 19.49 and well done to junior athlete Scott Dowell who ran a PB of 20.04 in 44th place.

Phil Smithard ran well covering his 3.1 miles in 20.26 (49th), Kieran Morgan was 64th in 21.33 and Ken Daniels was 99th in 23.29. Lesley Halstead placed 108th in 24.05, John Milton was 120th in 24.50 and Tom Maley was 157th in 27.38.

Our summer social night at the King Malcolm Hotel on Saturday evening was a huge success with superb live entertainment provided by Them Beatles. Over 80 club members and friends attended.

Impressive two mile success for Calum McGaw
Carnegie's Calum McGaw produced an impressive display of front running to win the two mile race at the Friday Evening Race Series. Calum sped around the hilly two lap course in Pittencrieff Park, Dunfermline reaching the finish in a fast 10.53.

Pitreavie AAC junior athlete Scott McAlpine competing in his first ever two mile race enjoyed a strong run placing 2nd overall in 11.21. The host club's Iain Taylor finished 3rd and leading M40 in 11.27 with Derek Simpson (Pitreavie AAC), 4th in 11.53.

Talented junior athlete Fergus McGaw (Carnegie Harriers) ran a personal best of 12.03 finishing 5th while club mate Ian Johnston placed 6th and 1st M50 in 12.20. Wee County Harrier's Graeme Wilson clocked 12.40 finishing 7th overall and Colin Simpson (Colorado) was 8th in 14.49.

Despite there only being a very small field of runners the event was enjoyed by everyone who took part. Thanks as always to all the club members who came along to assist. A selection of race photo's will be available soon.
