Ravenscraig Park success for Calum McGaw
Carnegie's Calum McGaw set a new junior course record of 4.49 whilst winning Tuesday evenings Ravenscraig Park One Mile Road Race in Kirkcaldy. Calum forced the pace from the start covering the opening 400m in a swift 65 seconds before reaching halfway in 2.15. Over the closing stages, Calum and Owen Miller (Dunfermline & West Fife AC) were locked together before the Carnegie athlete edged clear over the final 30 metres winning the race in 4.49 with Miller timing at 4.50.

Kevin Mathie had a strong run finishing 5th overall in 5.18, Willie Hargreaves was 6th in 5.22, Alan Cockburn, 2nd M40 and 8th overall in 5.35 and Paul Arnott was 18th in 6.20.

Impressive PB for Scott Bradley at the London Marathon
Congratulations to Carnegie's Scott Bradley who finished the London Marathon in a personal best time of 2.35.16 placing 102nd overall. This tremendous run moves Scott to 5th in the Carnegie all-time marathon rankings having lowered his previous best (2.36.55) by almost two minutes. Campbell Hutt on his marathon debut was rewarded with a superb time of 3.03.11 (1305th) while Bernt Cederstrom clocked 3.40.59 finishing 6290th in the field of 36,000 runners.

Kirsty Baird enjoyed an excellent marathon debut covering her 26.2 miles around London in 3.43.01, Susan Cederstrom timed at 3.51.36 and Paul Hutton finished in 4.02.30. Colin Reynolds clocked a time of 4.17.43 and David Harper reached the finish in The Mall in 4.34.59.

Tommy Lawrence in his first race since returning from injury finished 3rd at the Edinburgh parkrun 10K in 34.36. Malcolm Smith ran a 10k best of 42.39 placing 17th, Ross Carrie clocked 44.09 (24th) and Paul Arnott was 43rd in 47.22.

At Saturday's Edinburgh parkrun 5k, three Harriers took part with Ian Stewart placing 4th and 1st M50 in 17.01. Ross Carrie was 28th in 19.35 and Paul Arnott was 60th in 22.05.

Harriers in action at the 53 mile Highland Fling
Several members of Carnegie Harriers took part in Saturday's Highland Fling Race which covers an incredibly challenging 53 miles along the West Highland Way from Milngavie to Tyndrum. Peter Humphreys was the leading Carnegie athlete placing an excellent 22nd overall in 9.38.58. David Greig was the next Harrier home clocking 10.26.15 (65th) followed by Andy Sim who timed at 10.38.44. Carnegie's men finished 4th team overall.

Gail Murdoch reached the finish in Tyndrum in 10.50.58 (92nd), Fabienne Thompson was 122nd in 11.21.01 and Helena Sim finished 134th in 11.28.44. Carnegie's ladies finished 3rd ladies team overall. Neil Campbell finished 224th in 13.29.35.

Carnegie Harriers were represented by three teams in the Highland Fling Relay Race with our Carnegie Cougars (Jo Wilson, Isobel Burnett, Lesley Landels and Morna Fleming) finishing 3rd ladies team in 9.15.17. The Carnegie Wrinklies (John McArthur, Ken Daniels, Bill Duff and John Milton) were 23rd overall in 9.39.92 and Carnegie Ladies in 4 fun (Gillian McCracken, Louise Hewison, Fiona Rennie and Val Macaulay) were 7th ladies team in 10.19.01.

Alison West tackled the Isle of Mull Fell Race on Saturday, placing 3rd lady, covering the 8 mile course with 5000ft of climbing in 2.56.34.

Entries now open for the Forth Bridge 10K Road Race
Online entries are now open for the annual Forth Road Bridge 10K which will take place this year at 10.30am on Sunday 8th August. This event which is organised by Pitreavie AAC is highly popular and will reach its 350 race limit very quickly.

It is a counter in our Road Running Grand Prix and is very well supported by our club members every year.

Carnegie ladies win the Lochaber Marathon team award
Gail Murdoch winner of the inaugural D33 ultra race two weeks ago continued her good form by setting a personal best at Sunday's Lochaber Marathon from Fort William. Gail covered the out and back course in 3.07.56 finishing 2nd lady overall. Pauline Walker timed at 3.34.03 and Linda James a PB of around 3.36.59 to ensure team success for Carnegie ladies.

Derek Cassells was also in top form recording a new best of 3.16.27 along with Frazer Munro who shaved over 30 minutes of his previous best timing at 3.26.04. Fiona Rennie covered her 26.2 miles in 4.15.33.

Alan Cockburn placed an impressive 9th overall at the Bridge of Allan Toughest 10K on Sunday morning in 42.04 while Judy Turner finished 4th lady and 1st F35 in 42.41.

Sandy Bennet finished 3rd overall and 2nd M40 at Saturday's Screel Hill Race.

Roger Clark places 6th at the Edinburgh Half Marathon
The Chris Hoy Edinburgh Half Marathon took place from Meadowbank Stadium on a chilly Sunday morning attracting a field of 3062 runners. The popular event saw the athletes race from the City down to Portobello, through Musselburgh before turning in Prestonpans and finishing at Musselburgh Race Course.

Carnegie's Roger Clark produced an excellent run finishing 6th overall in a personal best of 1.16.39. Iain Taylor also made the 'top ten' placing 8th and leading M40 in 1.17.55.

Kristen Lownie was in superb form finishing 6th lady in a fast time and personal best of 1.26.47. Tom Spry was the 4th M60 and 251st overall in 1.34.05 and Ross Carrie covered his 13.1 miles in 1.37.42 (455th). Steve Whalley dipped under the 1.40.00 barrier reaching the finish in 1.39.44 (566th), Gordon Rae on his comeback from injury clocked 1.39.53 (576th) and Annette Bunyan ran well timing at 1.41.32 (657th).

Morna Fleming recorded a personal best of 1.43.12 finishing 4th F50, Tony Smith was 786th in 1.43.31 and Derek Carswell was 1099th in 1.47.49.

Carnegie Harriers also provided valuable assistance with Scott Bradley (1.29.25), John Fulham (1.44.11), Paul Hutton (1.58.29) and Lynne Bennet (2.14.40) all running as pacers.

Overall, the 2010 Chris Hoy Edinburgh Half Marathon was a resounding success and despite the challenging weather conditions many fast times were still recorded.

Nine Harriers complete the 25th Edinburgh parkrun
The weekly Edinburgh parkrun attracted a field of 162 runners to Cramond for the the 25th edition of the popular 5k run. Carnegie were represented by nine club members with a further two assisting with the event organisation.

Calum McGaw was the leading Harrier covering the windswept out and back course in 18.21, placing 4th overall and 1st junior. Colin Reid clocked 19.53 finishing 23rd, David Greig was 29th in 21.00 while Scott Dowell made his parkrun debut placing 34th in a personal best of 21.13. Gordon Somerville lowered his parkrun best to 21.48 finishing 43rd.

Melanie Sinclair enjoyed an excellent run finishing 4th lady overall in a PB of 22.17 on her parkrun debut while Paul Arnott finished 61st in 22.29. Lesley Halstead on her parkrun debut placed 7th lady overall in 23.55 and John Milton was 88th in 24.30.

Next weekend the Edinburgh parkrun 5k takes place at the usual start time of 9.30am on Saturday morning (24th April) and a special Edinburgh parkrun 10k takes place on the Sunday morning (25th April) at 9.30am.

Six Harriers complete the Clachnaben Hill Race
The 3rd counting event in our Hill Running Grand Prix took place at the Clachnaben Hill Race i South Deeside on Saturday afternoon. Pete Simpson covered the 10.5 mile course complete with 3500ft of ascent in 1.34.40 placing 7th overall and 1st M50. Alison West was 58th in 2.06.39, Allan Macaulay was 59th in 2.06.44 and Paul Hutton was 67th in 2.11.36. Isobel Burnett enjoyed her first Grand Prix event of the year finishing 68th in 2.11.38 and Phil Smithard was 70th in 2.14.37.

The Grand Prix table has been updated and the next event is Ben Lomond on Saturday 8th May.

Half Marathon team success for Carnegie's ladies
Congratulations to Gail Murdoch, Fabienne Thompson and Helena Sim who won the ladies team prize at Sunday's Heaven & Hell Half Marathon from Scone near Perth. Gail was the leading Carnegie athlete covering the challenging 13.1 miler in 1.36.54 finsihing 5th lady overall. Fabienne placed 8th lady in 1.40.53 and Helena was 11th lady in 1.42.24. Alison West clocked 1.53.54 and Derek Carswell timed at 2.03.46.

Ian Johnston was amongst 1000 runners taking part in the Titanic Quarter 10K Road Race in Belfast on Sunday afternoon where he finished 55th in 38.24.

Ian Stewart represented Carnegie Harriers at the Tom Scott Memorial 10 Mile Road Race from Strathcylde Park finishing 19th overall and leading M50 in 58.12.

Allan Brannigan clocked a time of 21.08 at the Help for Heroes 5k Run from Lochgelly High School to Cowdenbeath football stadium on Sunday morning.

Calum McGaw was in action at the Tayside Time Trials at Caird Park Stadium, Dundee where he won the 800m and 1500m events in personal bests of 2.12 and 4.37 respectively.

Harriers set fast times at the Edinburgh parkrun
There was an excellent turnout of almost 40 club members at Saturday's Edinburgh parkrun which saw a field of 204 runners enjoy almost perfect conditions for the 5k run. The event incorporated the 3rd counter in Carnegie's Road Running Grand Prix with many Harriers recording personal bests.

2009 West Highland Way race winner Scott Bradley was the leading Carnegie athlete placing 2nd overall in an excellent personal best of 15.53. Allan Fotheringham was the next Harrier home covering the fast, out and back course in 16.34 finishing 3rd overall and 1st M40. Roger Clark in 4th position was hot on his heels clocking a time of 16.38 with Iain Taylor recording a parkrun best of 16.42 crossing the line in 5th position.

Alex Keenan on his return from injury ran a parkrun PB of 17.09 (6th), Campbell Hutt recorded a new best of 17.10 (7th) and Andrew Smith clocked 17.21 placing 8th. Well done to Steven King who ran a 5k PB of 17.38 (13th) and to leading M50 Ian Johnston who timed at 17.56 finishing 17th.

There were strong runs from Alan Cockburn (24th in 18.33), Ross Carrie (30th in 18.52) and John Fulham (31st in 18.53) while Gail Murdoch ran a personal best of 19.29 finishing 3rd lady overall. Darran Neilson set a 5k PB of 19.38 (42nd), Jon Farrimond made his Carnegie debut timing at 19.49 (46th) and Kieran Morgan in his last race in his 40's set a PB of 19.50 (47th). Malcolm Smith and David Greig set PB's of 19.52 and 19.53 respectively while Isobel Burnett was the elading F50 clocking a fine time of 20.01.

Pamela Gilfillan on her parkrun debut ran a PB of 20.57, Dru Baker clocked 21.30 and there were PB's for Susan Cederstrom (21.42) and Morna Fleming (21.53 and leading F55). Richie Cunningham despite run the entire West Highland Way twice this week still managed his first parkrun in 23.02, Lesley Landels made her club debut in 23.15, Louise Hewison clocked 23.24 and Bill Fairley timed at 25.19.

Carnegie Harriers represented nearly 20% of the Edinburgh parkrun field and very well done to everyone who took part. Coffee and cakes were thoroughly enjoyed after the run in Cramond car park. The Grand Prix has now been updated will all the results after Event No.3.

Ultra success for Gail at the D33
Congratulations to Gail Murdoch who was the ladies winner of Saturday's D33 Ultra Race timing at 4.26.48. The 33 mile race on the Deeside Way started and finished at Duthie Park in Aberdeen, attracting a field of over 100 ultra racers.

Pauline Walker also enjoyed a superb run finishing 2nd lady in 4.48.58 and Helena Sim was the leading F45 in 4.55.40. Peter Humphreys placed 11th overall and 2nd M40 in 4.10.24, Andy Sim finished 27th in 4.48.24 and Fiona Rennie was 83rd in 6.18.32.

Well done to Ross Carrie who won the West Lothian 5K Multi Terrain Race at Beecraigs Country Park in 21.16 and to Alan Cockburn who finished 2nd (45.08) in the corresponding 10K race.

Five Harriers took part in the Normans Law Hill Race from Luthrie. Niall Wilson was the leading Carnegie runner placing 41st in 38.38. Chris Davidson reached the finish in 42.09 (67th) and Alison West was 71st in 42.21. Melanie Sinclair made her hill and Carnegie Harriers debut placing 83rd in 44.55 while Bill Fairley posted a time of 52.36 finishing 111th.

Bill Duff contested the Dunbar 10K Road Race in East Lothian covering the 6.2 mile course in 44.55 (89th) and Ken Daniels was 165th in 51.43.

Harriers in great form at National Road Relays
Carnegie Harriers enjoyed a successful day at Saturday's National Six Stage Road Relays in Livingston. The Championship event saw Carnegie's Masters team win the Gold medals after a very strong team performance around the 27 mile route. Carnegie's senior 'A' team placed 16th overall and the club's senior 'B' team were 45th overall.

Ian Stewart undertook the 3.15 opening stage for the Carnegie Masters (aged 40 and over) team covering the undulating route in 17.26 placing 20th overall and 2nd in the Masters race. Lewis Lawson kept the Harriers in 2nd Masters team position on Stage 2 clocking 33.25 for the 5.85 mile leg. Ian Johnston timed at 19.03 on Stage 3 (3.15 miles) as Carnegie remained in 2nd place behind Ron Hill Cambuslang in the Masters Championship race.

In form Allan Fotheringham clocked an impressive 32.40 on Stage 4 (5.85 miles) while Stevie Ogg on Stage 5 (3.15 miles) timed at 18.20. Moving onto the final stage, Ron Hill Cambuslang were still in pole position in the Masters race but a steady run from Iain Taylor saw Carnegie move into the lead over the last few miles. Iain clocked 34.03 for Stage 6 (5.85 miles) as Carnegie Harriers placed 11th team overall and leading Masters team in 2.34.57.

Ron Hill Cambuslang won the silver medals in the Masters Championship in 2.35.47 and Calderglen Harriers took the bronze medals in 2.43.26.

Calum McGaw clocked 18.01 (27th) on Stage 1 followed by Roger Clark timing at 33.47 (28th) on Stage 2. Alex Keenan on his return from injury covered the 3.15 mile third stage in 18.11 (22nd) before Campbell Hutt moved the team into 20th position over Stage 4 posting a time of 34.41. Steven King enjoyed a strong run (18.27) on Stage 5 moving Carnegie into 16th position and Andrew Smith brought the team home in 16th place overall covering his 5.85 miles in 34.21.

Carnegie's senior 'B' team performed well finishing 45th team overall in 3.00.47. Mark Johnstone led the team off clocking 21.32 (55th) on Stage 1 before handing over to Pete Simpson who timed at 36.36 (47th) on Stage 2. Stephen Greer covered Stage 3 in 21.44 (50th) and Bernt Cederstrom reached the end of Stage 4 in 39.16 (45th). Kieran Morgan on the penultimate stage clocked 21.52 (44th) and Malcolm Smith brought the senior 'B' team ome in 39.47 (45th).

Earlier in 2010, Carnegie enjoyed Gold medal success at the National Cross Country Relays in Cumbernauld along with the Scottish Veteran Harriers 4 Stage Road Relays at Strathclyde Park.

Carnegie Harriers are a friendly running club who cater for the interests of road, country, hill, ultra, trail and fun running. The club meets for training at Dunfermline Academy of Sport, Pitreavie Playing Fields, Dunfermline, every Tuesday and Thursday at 6.20pm (for a 6.30pm start). The Academy of Sport offer superb changing / showering facilities along with a licensed bar and cafe.

We welcome new members of all abilities regardless of whether you are a serious competitor or just wanting to keep fit. We organise structured group training sessions throughout the year along with promoting several open races, club member only events, time trials and social nights. Membership through to the end of the 2011 membership year on 31/05/11 is now available at £30 per year for adults and £10 for juniors (15 - 17 years old).
