Carnegie Harriers hosted their annual Loch Fitty Cross Country Race on Saturday afternoon. The 5 mile undulating course on the North side of the loch was solid underfoot due to the overnight frost which made for a testing race for the 35 runners taking part.
Congratulations to race winner Iain Taylor who clocked 29.53 finishing one second clear of 2nd placed Tommy Lawrence who recorded 29.54. Pitreavie's Barry Davie claimed 3rd place recording a time of 30.24 with fast improving Andrew Smith timing at 30.35 in 4th.
Fabienne Thompson made a successful defence of her 2009 title winning the ladies race in 35.09 (12th overall) with Isobel Burnett running a strong race finishing 2nd lady in 36.50. Gail Murdoch placed 3rd lady in 37.29.
In the age group categories Stevie Ogg won the M40 award (5th overall) in 30.47, Ian Johnston the M50 award (7th overall) in 32.00 and Bill Duff the M60 award (17th overall) in 36.54. Helena Sim was the leading F40 (22nd overall) in 38.54 and well done to Morna Flemingwho won the F50 award (27th overall) in 39.24.

Despite a bitterly cold morning at the Edinburgh parkrun, Carnegie's Gail Murdoch produced an excellent run over the out and back 5k course to remove over 20 seconds from her previous best.
The popular weekly event attracted a field of 182 runners with eleven Carnegie members taking part. Iain Taylor was the leading Harrier placing 4th overall in 17.14 with Campbell Hutt on his return from injury clocking 18.12 in 9th place.
Kieran Morgan ran a 5k best of 19.59 (29th) while Gail Murdoch clocked a new PB of 20.01 as she finished 30th overall and 4th lady. Ross Carrie completed his 3rd parkrun in a new parkrun best of 20.09 placing 33rd.
Iain Thomson posted a time of 21.36 (56th) on his parkrun debut and Gordon Somerville finished 60th in 21.55. Louise Dallas on her Carnegie debut recorded a time of 23.19 (85th), John Milton timed at 24.43 (104th), Val Macaulay was 135th in 26.52 and Tom Maley finished 163rd in 29.37.

At the Finsbury parkrun 5K on Saturday morning David Greig posted a time of 22.43 placing 17th.
Carnegie's Roger Clark was the convinicing winner of our opening 3 mile time trial of 2010. Leading from the gun, Roger sped around the testing two lap course in 16.36 finishing clear of 2nd placed Barry Davie (Pitreavie AAC) who recorded 16.51 and new Carnegie member Andrew Smith who was 3rd in 16.56.
Stevie Ogg was the leading M40 placing 4th overall in 17.05 with Steven King occupying 5th in 17.34. Ian Johnston was the 1st M50 (6th overall) in 18.26, John Fulham posted a quick time of 19.05 (7th), Bernt Cederstrom was 8th in 19.13 and Derek Cassells, 9th in 19.16.
Gail Murdoch took the honours in the ladies race clocking 19.43 placing 10th overall. Catriona McCracken enjoyed a strong run finishing 2nd lady in 19.52 and new member Pamela Gilfillan placed 3rd lady in 21.13. Annette Bunyan was 4th lady in 21.23 and Kirsty Stoddart (Harmeny AC) was the 5th lady in 23.06.

Carnegie Harriers are a friendly running club who cater for the interests of road, country, hill, ultra, trail and fun running. The club meets for training at Dunfermline Academy of Sport, Pitreavie Playing Fields, Dunfermline, every Tuesday and Thursday at 6.20pm (for a 6.30pm start). The Academy of Sport offer superb changing / showering facilities along with a licensed bar and cafe.
We welcome new members of all abilities regardless of whether you are a serious competitor or just wanting to keep fit. We organise structured group training sessions throughout the year along with promoting several open races, club member only events, time trials and social nights. Membership through to the end of our current memberships year on 31/05/10 is only £15 per year for adults and £7 for juniors (15 - 17 years old).

An excellent team performance saw Carnegie Harriers successfully retain their Scottish Veteran Harriers Road Relay title at Strathclyde Park near Motherwell.
Lewis Lawson covered the opening 3.67 mile leg for the 'A' team in 20.28 placing 4th. Scottish veteran internationlist Ian Stewart produced a very strong run to bring Carnegie into the lead at halfway clocking 19.55 on Leg 2. Tommy Lawrence covered the penultimate leg in a fast 19.28 and Andrew Wright ensured team success for Carnegie clocking 18.43 bringing the Harriers home in first position.
Carnegie's 'B' team were also in great form placing 4th overall. Allan Fotheringham had an outstanding run on leg one timing at 19.59 in 3rd position before Iain Taylor clocked 20.33 keeping the 'B' team in 3rd place at halfway. Stevie Ogg covered leg three in 21.15 (3rd) and John Lambie clocked 20.49 as the team placed 4th overall.
Steven King showed no adverse effects from Saturday's Devils Burden Hill Relay as he covered leg one for the 'C' team in 21.26 placing 8th. Peter Morrison clocked 25.49 on leg two (18th), Malcolm Smith timed at 25.09 (17th) on leg three and Mark Johnstone covered leg four in 25.37.
An incomplete Carnegie 'D' team saw Ian Johnston record 22.25 on leg one and John Fulham clocked 23.59 on leg two.
Carnegie ladies finished 10th club overall with Gail Murdoch placing 5th (23.56) on leg one. Lesley Halstead covered leg two in 28.43 (9th) and Maryann Lawrence clocked 28.54 on leg three ensuring a top ten finish for our ladies.

Fife AC hosted the annual Devils Burden Hill Relay on Saturday morning from Falkland. Seven teams representing Carnegie Harriers took part and the complete set of results can be found on the Fife AC website HERE. Well done to Andy Sim for organising the Carnegie teams and to everyone who took part who all enjoyed a great day on the hills. Our leading team finished 12th overall. Roger Clark was the leading Harrier at Saturday's Edinburgh parkrun clocking 17.17 in 7th position. Matt Meade on his parkrun debut placed 18th in 18.50 while Robert Milton finished 31st in 19.54. Colin Reid and "Mitch" broke the 20 minute barrier placing 34th in 18.54 while Ross Carrie lowered his parkrun best to 20.20 placing 38th. Tom Maley was 174th in 30.12. 200 runenrs took part.
The 3rd and final cross country race in the 2009/2010 East District League took place on a very cold afternoon in Broxburn. Nineteen Carnegie members took part with valuable Cross Country Grand Prix points at stake.
Fabienne Thompson was to the fore in the ladies race placing 12th overall and leading Harrier in 26.53. Isobel Burnett covered the icy course in 28.30 (26th) while Kirsty Baird ran well clocking 28.54 (30th) and our ladies placed 6th club overall.
In the men's race Roger Clark had an impressive run finishing 45th in 36.27, Steven King was 71st (38.01) and Ian Johnston was 93rd in 39.40. John Fulham produced a strong effort timing at 42.53 (129th) along with Stephen Greer who placed 143rd in 43.50.

The 13th edition of the weekly Edinburgh parkrun 5k took place on Saturday morning along Silverknowes promenade with eight Carnegie runners amongst the 120 taking part. The recent thaw ensured an ice free course but this was replaced with a cold wind which made the conditions quite challenging.
Making his parkrun debut Ian Stewart posted a time of 16.49 finishing an excellent 3rd overall and leading M50. Iain Taylor clocked 17.07 placing 4th (1st M40) while new member Ross Carrie finished 19th in 20.21.
David Greig completed his 4th parkrun in 21.18 (26th) with Campbell Reid finishing two seconds behind in 21.20 (28th). Alison Westclocked 23.40 (56th), Angela Dixon on her parkrun debut timed at 28.35 (100th) and Tom Maley was 105th in 29.26.
Forty five members of Carnegie Harriers have now taken part in an Edinburgh parkrun event and further information, results and photo's can be found on the parkrun website by clicking HERE.
Carnegie's Andy Symonds represented the East District team at Saturday's Bupa Great Edinburgh International Cross Country Race which was ran over a snow covered 9K course in Holyrood Park. The race which was shown live on BBC1 featured a world class field of athletes including current World cross country champion Kenenisa Bekele (Ethiopia) and the Ukraine's Sergiy Lebid.
The race was won by Kenya's Joseph Ebuya in 28.41 with Bekele placing 4th in 29.17. Andy found the slippy underfoot conditions very challenging finishing 41st overall in 34.01.
Kieran Morgan was the leading Carnegie athlete at the 12th Edinburgh parkrun covering the snow covered 5k course in 20.43 placing 13th overall. Colin Reid contested his first parkrun finishing 14th in 20.45 accompanied by his Border terrier and trusty running buddy 'Mitch' as they prepared for their forthcoming Canix events. Tom Maley crossed the finishing line in 32.08 in 51st position completing his first parkrun.
Details of our Road and Hill Running Grand Prix events have now been confirmed. The first event on the road will take place at the Cupar 5 on Saturday 27th February and the firest counting hill event is at the Bishop Hill Race on Sunday 7th March.

In both the Road and Hill Running Grand Prix, 50 points will be awarded to the first male and female to finish each race, followed by 49 points for 2nd, 48 points for 3rd etc. Overall points are calculated based on your best nine events.
Awards in all age groups will be presented in December at our annual awards evening. All runners outwith the award winners who complete the minimum nine events will also be presented with an award.
Your age category is based on your age at the opening event in each Grand Prix.
Online race entries (£12) for the 'Tiso' Carnethy 5 Hill Race which takes place on Saturday 13th February opened at 12 Noon today (Tuesday 5th January) and the race is now fully subscribed. Thirty members of Carnegie Harriers have entered.

Our club training schedule for January, February and March has now been posted on the Training section of the website. Please note that sessions are subject to change due to the snowy and icy conditions.
Our training venue at the Dunfermline Academy of Sport is currently closed due to the snow. We will still meet at the car park at this location for club training but please come along changed and ready to run.
The tempo run and interval session planned for this Tuesday (5th January) has been cancelled and replaced by a 30 minute hill session on the grass (snow) at the Public Park, Dunfermlne. Please meet at the bandstand at 7pm where the session will be explained. Studded shoes are recommended.
The new community woodland course in Crossgates proved an excellent venue for the 3rd annual Paarlauf which is co-hosted by Carnegie Harriers and Pitreavie AAC. The race involved twelve teams of paired runners completing eight laps of a snow covered 1k course. A handicapping system was put in place to match the teams and amidst heavy snow showers the event got underway.
Well done to Bill Duff and Iain Taylor who were the winning team clocking a time of 32.33 having taking the lead on lap three and gradually opening up a gap on the chasing teams. Matt Meade and Peter Morrison ran a strong race finishing second overall in 32.55 with Ian Johnston and Willie Rennie claiming third spot in 33.04.
Everyone who took part appeared to thoroughly enjoy themselves and many thanks to Ian Johnston and Barry Davie (Pitreavie AAC) for their superb race organisation and prizes. The opening Edinburgh parkrun of 2010 went ahead on Saturday morning over a revised grassland course adjacent to the promenade which was covered in ice. The event attracted 82 runners who all appeared to enjoy the cross country version of the popular weekly event.
Congratulations to Iain Taylor who led from gun to tape winning the race in 18.45 finishing 72 seconds clear of second placed Graeme Ackland (Lothian Running Club).
Alan Cockburn placed 8th overall in 21.14, Robert Milton was 13th in 22.02 and Kieran Morgan finished 17th in 22.24.
